Diabetes Health Care Center
Take control of your diabetes, ask your doctor for a referral!
The Illinois Valley Diabetes Center offers first-class services for those dealing with pre-diabetes, gestational diabetes, and Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. The Center is accredited by the American Association of Diabetes Educators, and is taught by certified diabetes educators, pharmacists, dietitians, physical therapists, and nurse educators.
Diabetes Education
If you or someone you know has diabetes, Illinois Valley Community Hospital offers a comprehensive program that includes diabetes self management classes, in addition to individual appointments with a dietitian and a diabetes nurse educator. Diabetes self-management education includes gaining the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary for taking control of your diabetes. Our mission is to empower people of all ages to appropriately self-manage their diabetes so they may benefit from lifelong good health. Our team of experts in diabetes care offers a variety of services and will work with your entire health care team to improve your health status, and quality of life.
Below is the 2012 class schedule. Classes require a physician’s referral. Diabetes self management classes will take place at the IVCH 6th street building—1305 6th Street, Peru, IL.

Material Covered
Group Class 1: This class will cover blood glucose monitoring, knowing your numbers, diabetes complications, stress, and goal setting.
Group Class 2: This class will cover carbohydrate counting, meal planning, diabetes medications, exercise, high & low blood sugar.
