Volunteer opportunities at IVCH

IVCH has an immediate need for volunteers in these areas:

Occupational health

Monday, Wednesday, Friday 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Greet all patients at the check-in window, answer the telephone, assist staff with errands and clerical needs.

Day surgery

Every other Friday 7 to 11:30 a.m.
Greet patients and families and complete check-in for surgery, make coffee, assist families to make them comfortable.

Afternoon program

Weekdays 4 to 7 p.m.
Transport patients, deliver specimens and paperwork throughout the hospital, answer the telephone and log requests, provide information to visitors and patients.

Information desk

Thursday 12 to 4 p.m.
Friday  8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Greet everyone entering and leaving the hospital. Provide directions and room numbers to visitors.

Auxiliary

IVCH auxilians staff the hospital gift shop, organize fund-raisers and provide clerical help for hospital activities. The Auxiliary has monthly meetings (September through May) at 10 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month.

Volunteer escorts

The “Red Coats” help transport patients and make deliveries between hospital departments. Shifts are available mornings and afternoons each weekday.

Other adult volunteers

Volunteers are needed to staff the IVCH information desk in the West Street lobby and also the information desk in the Day Surgery waiting area. Volunteer positions are also available in the respiratory, diagnostic imaging and physical therapy departments.

Adults who have daytime jobs but who still want to volunteer at IVCH can join the hospital’s special evening program. Two, three, and four hour shifts are available beginning at 4 p.m.

Volunteens

Students age 15 and older work with patients on the nursing floors. Flexible hours, including weekends.

Students age 14 and older can perform clerical duties for various departments within the hospital. Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Hospice volunteers

Volunteers are a key component in the delivery of services provided by Illinois Valley Hospice, the IVCH department that cares for terminally ill patients in their homes.
