What You Need to Know about Coronavirus
(COVID-19)
Illinois Valley Community Hospital’s clinical staff has been trained
on procedures to identify and treat coronavirus (COVID-19). We are working
closely with the LaSalle County Health Department and the Illinois Department
of Public Health to monitor the latest developments and implement recommended
screening and treatment guidelines.

What are the symptoms of coronavirus?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that patients with
coronavirus can experience mild to severe respiratory illness with symptoms
typically appearing 2-14 days after being exposed to the virus. Symptoms include:
- Fever
- Cough
- Shortness of breath
What should I do if I have symptoms?
If you have symptoms but do not require emergency medical care, stay home
and contact your primary care provider for guidance. If you do require
emergency medical care, our Emergency Department is ready to meet your needs.
Should I get tested?
Please contact your doctor or other primary care provider regarding coronavirus
testing if you believe you have been exposed and need to be tested.
Who is most at risk for severe complications?
Those most at risk of severe illness are the elderly, people with weakened
immune systems, and people who have other underlying health issues.
What are the best ways to prevent the virus?
Frequent handwashing is the first line of defense against coronavirus.
Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds. If soap and
water are not available, hand sanitizers containing at least 60% alcohol
are effective.
Other was to prevent exposure to coronavirus include:
- Avoiding close contact with people who are sick
- Avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth
- Covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue and then throwing away the tissue
- Cleaning and disinfecting frequently-touched objects or surfaces with cleaning
sprays and wipes.
- Staying home when you are sick

Yes, plan to keep your medical appointment. As with any illness, contact
your doctor or other provider before your appointment if you are not feeling
well to determine if you need to reschedule.
